The Dallas Minority Repertory Theatre (DMRT), was co-founded by Reginald Montgomery and Irma P. Hall in 1973. DMRT initiated productions through 1979, including original works by Montgomery and Hall and renowned works from the canon — Douglas Turner Ward’s Happy Ending, J.E. Franklin’s Black Girl, Athol Fugard’s Blood Knot, and Mickie Grant’s Don’t Bother Me I Can’t Cope. Irma Hall left the Dallas area to develop her career in television and movies. When she returned in 2008, she helped establish a new company, the African American Repertory Co. They were still producing in 2016.
