George Hawkins (1947-1990), a native of Dallas, was an actor and director. Hawkins earned degrees in business and accounting from Prairie View A&M College and Case Western Reserve University, respectively. He trained in acting with several professional theatres including the Beale Street Repertory Theatre in Memphis, Tennessee. In 1976, his love of acting led to the founding of the Ensemble Theatre in Houston, where he served as the artistic director until his death in 1990. Under the pen name Carl Anderson, Hawkins wrote plays for children and soap operas— a total of six.
